The SAT and ACT are standardized tests that help evaluate college applicants.
Most students will want to take at least one of these tests by the spring of their junior year. They should also strongly consider scheduling a second in case they are not satisfied by their first test's scores.

Generally, you'll need to sign up at least a month before the test-but signing up earlier will make things go more smoothly. Signing up earlier will help you find nearby test centers; in competitive districts, they can be booked out surprisingly early! In addition, substantially increasing one's scores tends to take around three months of study, so you'll want to start your preparation well before the test!
